Work Experience At Bumble & Bloom Media

This time last year I was counting down the days till I started my PR degree. Fast forward a year later and I have shadowed a PR agency, learnt a lot about myself and the sector itself and have a summer worth of experience to add to my CV. I have always wanted to freelance after University but my work experience with Chloe, MD of Bumble and Bloom Media has confirmed that this is something I would really like to do in the future. Today I thought I would talk about what I have done over the summer and what I have learnt.

I first started talking to Chloe through Twitter about North East Bloggers but found myself eventually emailing her about work experience after a few exchanged tweets. Chloe launched Bumble and Bloom Media to show clients how easy it is to market your business or brand without a large budget. After meeting with Chloe over a coffee and talking about what I would like to gain out of my work experience, I knew immediately that I will be taught something that will be useful in the future.

Over the summer: I have attended one of Chloe’s workshops which you can read more about here, practised my social media skills for various clients and more importantly, improved my writing skills through press releases and blog posts. One of my favourite clients that I have worked on was the Yogalilies Instagram page where I created content for their #zenyogachallenge over the summer.

Here is an example of the content that I created for Instagram.

I enjoyed the freedom of being able to work when I wanted too which meant I could fit it around my own personal blog, The July Journal and working part time. The meetings with Chloe were very informal and gave us a chance to catch up and talk about anything that I was stuck on or needed help with. Working alongside Chloe has really gave me and insight into what freelancing is truly like and although I know I will need industry experience after University, it is something I would love to do in the future. Not only this but I feel like I have gained a friend from working with Chloe and someone who I can go to for advice in the future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chloe for taking me under her wing for the Summer. What do you think of freelance work? How valuable do you think it is to have different experiences whilst studying? Let me know your thoughts in the comments or you can tweet me.
