The Sunday Post: The World Of Beatrix Potter

I have always loved The Lake District but after finding out about The World of Beatrix Potter attraction hidden in Bowness-On-Windermere, I knew that I would fall in love with it even more. I was well and truly taken away with the whole attraction and hopefully you will see why!

The attraction begins with a short presentation introducing the author, her stories and illustrations. The door automatically opens from the film room when finished to enter the main exhibition with sights and sounds from the characters in the Beatrix Potter books.

The exhibition is laid out along a path where you can admire many well known characters from all 23 books. There were touch screens with each section where you can learn more about each book. Along with Peter Rabbit, you’ll also see Jemima Puddleduck, Mr Tod, Aunt Pettitoes and her eight offspring from The Tale of Pigling Bland, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Jeremy Fisher, Flopsy Bunnies and Mr McGregor. The whole attraction is so beautifully created and suited for Peter Rabbit fans, young or old.

There is a large interactive room that tells you more about the life of Beatrix Potter, where she lived and how she fell in love with The Lake District. It takes you on a virtual walk through parts of The Lake District where the books were set or where she got her inspiration from.

The Peter Rabbit Garden was like walking into the books itself with cos lettuces that Benjamin Bunny nibbled on, the gooseberry bush where Peter got caught in a net as he was trying to escape Mr McGregor and a greenhouse explaining lots of different plants. The garden even included a beautiful water feature symbolising the inspiration behind the Beatrix Potter books. The garden was absolutely beautiful so I wasn’t surprised to find out it won the Gold Medal in the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show in 2014.

There was a lovely gift shop with various merchandise about Beatrix Potter and all the different tales that she had written from books, DVDs, soft toys, key-rings etc. We finished our visit with a cupcake and a drink before setting off to see my sister and Noel later that day.

Have you been to visit The World of Beatrix Potter yet?
