York Cocoa House Review

When I had a day trip to York with my sister and baby nephew, we stumbled upon the York Cocoa House. A quirky and extremely unique place offering unusual recipes and amazing service in the heart of York’s town centre and as we walked along we knew it was a must for lunch. I just couldn’t wait to share it with you.

As I walked into the cafe, it reminded me of my school visits to Beamish. They had lots on old fashioned images and articles of different chocolate, including framed jigsaws with the old fashioned wrappers. They had an area just for workshops where you can make your own lollipop, chocolate bar or truffles and they even hold chocolate tasting events. Unfortunately we weren’t in York long enough to participate in one of these delicious sounding events but it is definitely on my list of things to do next time I’m in York. We ended up siting next to two bookcases full of recipe books that contained anything to do with chocolate which was rather interesting.

There was a wide variety of options to choose from as far as food is concerned but in the end I went for grilled goat’s cheese & red onion on toast. It came with green leaves drizzled with their signature rosemary, red onion and dark chocolate sauce which tasted equally delicious. My sister chose the vegetable chilli with nachos which was a huge portion. It was so unusual but tasted amazing! Our tummies was so full after lunch but we both knew the trip wouldn’t be the same without trying a piece of cake. We opted for the Salted Caramel Torte which was out of this world. Personally, I think anything that we chose would have tasted amazing and completely different to anything that is around Newcastle or Manchester. For drinks, I had a Terry’s Chocolate Orange milkshake which again was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before!

Overall the service was better than anything we could have asked for, especially with a 6-month old baby in our company. They were very polite and served our food promptly. The lovely girls made us feel very welcome and at home. If your taking a trip to York soon, I would highly recommend having a look at the York Cocoa House and at least popping in for one of their delicious milkshakes.

Have you ever been to the York Cocoa House before? Have you got anything similar in your hometown? Let me know your thoughts.
