As part of Edd’s birthday last week, I decided to pay for us to stay one night in Edinburgh. I love exploring different cities and finding new things to adventure on to so we decided to leave quite early to give us plenty of time to explore the city.
When we arrived around lunchtime on Friday afternoon, it was surprisingly dry and quite a nice day. The hotel was really easy to find and in the middle of Edinburgh city centre which made everything that little bit easier. We decided to stay in the hub by Premier Inn which was perfect! Opening earlier this year, it’s the first app controlled hotel in Scotland and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The staff were brilliant and very efficient if we needed anything, the room was amazing and very modern (it even included a bottle opener!) and the overall service was fantastic.
After spending an hour being overwhelmed with the hotel we decided to head out for a wander around the shops and find something nice to eat. We decided to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe as this isn’t something that Newcastle has yet. Apart from it being extremely expensive, the food tasted delicious and the service was extremely fast and efficient. We had potato skins to start with followed with a burger. Looking back, I wish we decided to get a little souverniour from the gift shop that they had there. We even decided to have a look round the National Gallery before heading back for a rather chilled night at the hotel.
The hotel had a deli which had a warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere. The night before we ordered two Breakfast Boxes. Mine included a bagel, a breakfast bar, orange juice and a choice of tea or coffee whilst Edd’s included a bacon sandwich, orange juice and a choice of tea or coffee. We both decided against the hot drinks because we don’t usually have that. If this isn’t for you then there is a wide variety of other options including porridge, croissants, toast, muffins and cookies.
With our bellies full of a delicious breakfast, we headed off to Edinburgh Zoo. This has been something I have wanted to tick off my bucket list for a while because I love animals and I wanted to meet the pandas (yes, I did cry when I saw them).
Overall, it was a lovely mini getaway to spend some quality time together. We managed to fit in things that were completely new to me. I was totally blown away by the animals in the Zoo, the amazing architecture around the city and the lovely artwork that was in the gallery…it’s a pretty amazing city! You can see more of what we got up to over on my Instagram.
Have you ever been to Edinburgh before?
