Last Thursday, I took a little day trip to York as part of my birthday week. I wanted to see my sister and nephew before the big day so I thought I would share with you some photos.
If you have read my blog for a while, you may already know that my sister lives close to Manchester so I rarely see her and it means seeing Noel a lot less so it was such a lovely time to spend just a couple of hours exploring a different city. I have never been to York before but I was surprised to find out that it takes an hour from Newcastle which isn’t too bad.
After eating out at the York Cocoa House which you will hear more about next week, we headed out to The Shambles which is a street that features lovely shops, cafes, restaurants and tourist attractions. It had a lovely little gift shop that sold dreamcatchers and anyone who knows me in person will know that I love them so much so I couldn’t help picking one up. As you walk along, you can smell freshly baked bread and old fashioned sweets which took me back to educational trips to Beamish. Not only is it one of the most famous streets in Britain but it has also won this year’s Google’s Most Picturesque Street in Britain which is amazing!
On the way back to the train station, we had a little walk around the Museum Gardens which was absolutely beautiful! The flowers around the Museum was gorgeous and it was nice to grab some much needed fresh air before getting the train journey home.
I also received my first birthday card from Noel which I will cherish forever. Does anyone else get like this about birthday cards? I love them.
Have you been to York before? Is there anything I should plan to do on my next visit? Let me know what city I should go and explore next.
